On Last Supper

Cemara 6 Galeri, Jakarta, Indonesia

Before the feast of Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to pass from this world to the Father. He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end. The devil had already induced Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot, to hand him over. (John 13: 1 – 4)

The painting of The Last Supper has been the center of an interesting conversation for quite some time. Lately, though, the conversation gained some volume. The writing of Dan Brown put it onto pedestal once again. On this painting, The Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci, question and debates started to swirl around it. The painting gains an enormous attention due to the power to unveil the very mystery of Christianity (or so they say).

Is it really that powerful and important; is it really that valid that it can be a proof and a vessel to unveil the mystery of Christianity and the Godness of Jesus? Can an art work be an instrument to investigate faith and its struggle?
